A simple paper-based pictogram to assist individual decision-making
Reproduced from Hird, M. 2008. A simple paper-based patient decision aid. Evidence-Based Medicine, 13, (6) 166.
The pictogram above shows 100 faces, coded using different icons as shown in the legend at the bottom of the figure corresponding to those, among the 100 people who stopped smoking, who never experienced heart attack or stroke within 10 years, those who still experienced heart attack or stroke within 10 years despite stopping smoking, and those who did not experience heart attack or stroke within 10 years because of stopping smoking. Representing different events using different icons means that multiple events can be presented simultaneously. The pictogram such as above can be produced easily at http://www.nntonline.net/visualrx.
