MAR (Maximum Acceptable Risk)
1. Description
MAR (Maximum Acceptable Risk) assumes mutually exclusive benefit and risk events, and estimates the metric as .
2. Evaluation
2.1 Principle
- MAR uses the Stated Preference Method (SPM) as the basis for data collection.
- MAR explicitly assumes that benefits only occur when the risk does not i.e. the rates of risk occurring is multiplied by its utility and is multiplied by the utilities of benefits.
- MAR of one treatment is subtracted from MAR from its comparator for direct comparison based on a set of criteria.
2.2 Features
- MAR only allows one risk to be considered for a set of benefits criteria.
- In order to be comparable, the same set of benefits criteria must be used when estimating a MAR for another risk.
2.3 Visualisation
- A visualisation of MAR is here
2.4 Assessability and accessibility
- MAR is interpreted as the maximum acceptable risk for a specific AE to warrant a treatment over its comparator.
