RV-MCE (Relative Value adjusted Minimum Clinical Efficacy)

1. Description

RV-MCE (Relative Value adjusted MCE) incorporates stakeholders' value preferences on the importance of AEs into MCE.

2. Evaluation

2.1 Principle
  • The principle is based on MCE.
  • Relative values (RV) are used to adjust MCE for utilities of benefits and risks.
  • RV adjustment threatens the logical soundness of MCE.
  • See also RV-NNH.

2.2 Features
  • RV-MCE allows several benefits and risks to be included.
  • MCE only gives one point estimate (a single value).
  • It does not handle uncertainty.

2.3 Visualisation
  • There is no specific visualisation for RV-MCE.
2.4 Assessability and accessibility
  • MCE is not widely used in statistics or epidemiology, and very rarely used for benefit-risk assessment.
